The Perfect Summer Time Beverage

Water with fresh squeezed lime in a stainless steel canteen is absolute perfection. Just one lime can last the entire day, and if you like really cold water, the stainless steel gives crisp ice cold water. I've noticed another advantage the stainless steel bottle has, if you make your own protein shakes, the powders seem to blend and taste a lot better than when shaken in a plastic bottle. I'm sure there is some rational explanation for this phenomena.

My newest revelation is brewing tea bags with an ionizing water filter. Water tends to form hexagonal clusters of H20 molecules. One way to break up those formations is by boiling water thus allowing the water to become more bio-active and brew tea. There are many other advantages to filtering your water rather than using bottled water or the water directly from the faucet. This is just a nice advantage when having a nice refreshing glass of iced tea with no cooling required.

He was kicked off the show for not going to work. I know I said I'm not watching reality. I'm excused. My boyfriend was breaking up with me. I needed junk tv therapy.

So, this weekend was spent in Queens, NY. I was with the ex & other than seeing Joey from Real World, the other event worth mention was when we first got into Pen Station. Getting into the van taxi my shoe fell off as I attempted to get in. He's saying or motioning to hurry. Perplexed I whine, "my shoe fell off". Waiting impatiently behind me he picks up my shoe and chucks it into the taxi and says, "let's go, let's go."

so ridiculous, it made me laugh.

The Near Completion of Reid Stowe's Voyage

In what is becoming one of histories' greatest athletic and psychological feats, artist and sailor Reid Stowe passed day 800 of a planned 1000 days nonstop on his self-built 70 foot 50-ton Schooner Anne on July 1, 2009. In a world consumed by issues of ecology, energy and economy, Stowe's endurance challenge is a studied example of self-sufficiency. The Schooner Anne left Hoboken, New Jersey, on April 21, 2007 with three years of food and supplies, and the plan is to not port nor resupply for another 200 days.

With 184 days to go, I have followed first Reid and Soanya since their first 100 days at sea, and now just Reid as he finishes the time by himself. I can remember when they had a blogspot page. If they didn't post everyday people would be almost frantic. Are they ok!?! Where are they!?! It was always dissappointing how many bloggers sent negative messages to these two people with the courage to take such a journey. Some people just can't understand the adventurers spirit. Or understand that it is the nature of the spirit.

In any case, this is a 1,000 days at sea challenge. Reid has communication with the outside world, yet, he is dependent on the same sails, the same motor, the same food. everything.

Soanya had complained of terrible motion sickness for some time and had to leave at day 305. I had posted this event with a video of her speaking immediately after leaving the boat, here. Well, it turns out she was not experiencing motion sickness but, instead was pregnant, and had his baby. I posted this event as well, here.

It is interesting how Reid's person has changed being out at Sea for 1,ooo days. At first he would apologize when using cliched spiritual ideas. Well, not anymore!!! He now speaks freely about the spirit. He has become a spirit. It's actually so damn beautiful.

Block Web-Sites and Throw Away the Key

I can't believe I just did this. I blocked vacuous forums and threw away the key with Leechblock. I didn't stop there. I have been trying for the life of me to go to bed before 10pm and I just couldn't do it! The possible solution I've blocked on-line tv past 9pm, and the feature is unable to be changed for most of the day. My boyfriend also against the tv time drain has thrown out the apartment's cable.

As far as Blogger is concerned. It is considered a time waster. I'm not sure about that. I find there's always time for self exploration and the chance to be influenced by others. I might block certain blogger features, yet, I don't believe I would see a justification to throw away the key.

I've always stopped my addiction's pretty easily. The internet addiction has been the worse b/c it really influences what time I go to bed at night.

It's my sweeties birthday.

My boyfriend, being the mayor of the town (that's a joke), the street already bought him a festival sized birthday cake. Today, for his birthday, I'm going to grant his biggest nag, um wish, by surprising him at the gym he works at by me actually working out.

I've been running mostly b/c I love to run. Unfortunately, it really isn't cutting it, and I think it's about time to kick in my anabolic hormones, at least that what my boyfriend wants me to do. The steps are as follows:

a. Choose the ACSM walking formula.

ME: ok, Vo2 (mL x kg-1 x min-1) = (0.1 x S) + (1.8 x S x G) + 3.5 mL x kg-1 x min-1

translation: you will measure walking at 0.1 mL per the kg/min by multiplying it with the speed. Next, if there is a grade you will multiply 1.8 with the speed as well as the grade level. Than add them all up.

b. Write down your known values, and convert the values to the appropriate units.

ME: they told me the person is walking at 3.5 mph so this will be multiplied by 26.8 meters to convert it into the metric value. There is no grade so, the grade function will be zero.

c. Now, write out the whole formula.

ME: Already did that.

d. Substitute the known values for the variable name.

ME: so, the 3.5 mph multiplied by 26.8 is 93.8. Multiply that by 0.1. That is 9.38 and than add the 3.5 built into the formula.

e. S0lve for the unknown.

ME: Answer 9.38 + 3.5 = 12.88 mL x kg-1 x min-1.

Here's some further research:

What afterload is:

Left side problems: if the patient has a bad pump, i.e. LV failure, whether acute (MI) or chronic (low EF), then the physiologic response is to tighten up the arterial bed - increasing the left-side afterload, raising the SVR, trying to keep up the BP. This makes more work for the failing LV, as it's harder to pump into a tight arterial bed, but it's the only thing the body knows how to do. That's why there's so much emphasis in heart failure situations on "afterload reduction" - loosening up the arterial bed to make it easier for that LV to pump the blood out into it, as long as there's enough BP to work with. Alpha blockers - just the thing. Wedge rises in that situation, right? Too much preload - these patients get diuretics to get rid of some of it.

Reason for left ventricular hypertrophy:

Left ventricular hypertrophy occurs as a result of one or more things making your heart work harder than normal to pump blood to your body. For example, if you have high blood pressure, the muscles of the left ventricle must contract more forcefully than normal in order to counter the effect of the elevated blood pressure.

The effect of the stronger contraction on your heart is similar to the response of other muscles to an increased workload. If you add weight to a dumbbell for arm curls, your biceps become larger. Similarly, the work of adapting to high blood pressure may result in larger muscle tissue in the walls of the left ventricle. Unlike weight training, however, the increased workload on the heart is constant with each heartbeat and with little time for the heart muscles to relax. The increase in muscle mass causes the heart to function poorly.

They also question the validity of the exercise since testing the blood stream may have nothing to do with the system they are supposedly testing.
